I just saw it recently too. Got some tapes and my Survivor buddies & I watched it in three sittings.

In a way it reminded me a little of Thailand - one tribe wreaks havoc on the other tribe, but gets too cocky, decides to chuck out one of their own strongest team members, and ends up getting their ass whupped.

I did like the fact that despite Maraamu being so heavily thrashed, the dominant foursome from Rotu didn't think to shore up their numbers before that final TC by giving Paschal and Neleh some more reassurance.

However, once John C went, the next few episodes were pretty predictable. It didn't really heat up again until the last two eps. That was the problem with the series: much of it was pretty predictable. The big feature was the power shift.

I also thought the final TC was not very interesting, because too many of the jury members decided to give a speech rather than ask questions and get interesting answers. Mind you neither Neleh nor Vecepia seemed particularly articulate so I doubt we would have got a good TC anyway. Their responses were pretty cliched.

But the location was great and there were some pretty good challenges. And some great moments, most of which Mad Dog has covered: Neleh and her mint, Kathy peeing on John (oh god, if I get sick NEVER let that guy nurse me!), Zoe's comment to Tammy that she didn't like her from the get-go because of her eyes (one of the dumbest survivor lines ever), and Sean's horseback ride.

Oh, and Rosie O'Donnell was a hopeless reunion host. No hard questions, just a long puff piece rehashing stuff we already knew.

On the whole, I liked the Amazon, Pulau Tiga and Australia better.

Yup, Rob M was amazing. More unusual tactics for a Survivor player I have never seen. First, get rid of all the strong people on your tribe, ensuring that your losing streak continues, just because they threaten your desired position of alpha male. Second, once your depleted tribe is torn to bits and you and two others are thrown in with five members of the dominant tribe, run around stirring shit and pissing off the dominant tribemembers. Reeeeal bright.

I did enjoy being able to see the whole thing at once though (well, in three instalments). Much more cohesive.
