Emmy nominations for Survivor
Survivor nominated in four Emmy categories SNN Thursday, July 17, 2003 The 55th annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced today by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at a brief press conference held at the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre. "Survivor" was nominated in the following categories: Art Direction for a Variety or Music Program: "75th Annual Academy Awards," ABC; "Cedric the Entertainer Presents: No. 1," Fox; "The 45th Annual Grammy Awards," CBS; "MADtv: No. 806," Fox; "Survivor: Thailand: Episode 513," CBS. Cinematography for Nonfiction Programming (Single or Multicamera): "American Experience: Daughter From Danang," PBS; "James Cameron's Expedition: Bismarck," Discovery Channel; "Journeys With George," HBO; "Nova: Mountain of Ice," PBS; "Survivor: Thailand: The Importance of Being Earnest," CBS. Picture Editing for Nonfiction Programming Single or Multicamera: "American Experience: Seabiscuit," PBS; "American Experience: Daughter From Danang," PBS; "James Cameron's Expedition: Bismarck," Discovery Channel; "Journeys With George," HBO; "Survivor: The Amazon: More Than Meats the Eye," CBS. Reality-Competition Program: "100 Years of Hope and Humor," NBC; "AFI's 100 Years ... 100 Passions: America's Greatest Love Stories," CBS; "The Amazing Race," CBS; "American Idol," Fox; "Survivor," CBS The 2003 Primetime Awards will be telecast from Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium on Fox September 21st while the Creative Arts Awards, which represent the bulk of the Primetime Emmy presentations, will be presented on September 13th. Academy Chairman Bryce Zabel introduced a new category for the Primetime television show; reality competition, including recent ratings-busters that offer prizes to winners. "It's our job to reflect television as it is and encourage excellence where we can," Zabel told reporters. "So by doing that, and putting it on the Primetime, I think we're doing both of those things. More reality shows of those type will probably want to win Emmys, and they'll do a better job, even better than what they're doing now. "And at the same time, if Fox has more younger viewers who are watching reality television, maybe they will tune in to the Primetime Emmys this year. Bottom line: the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is a group of people who give out awards but we also put on a TV show, and we have the choice of: is reality in or reality out? Reality's in right now." Source: Academy of Television Arts & Sciences |

Thanks for the article, Dal. Interesting stuff. As an Emmy is a fairly serious award, I'd be surprised if Survivor won anything other than the reality category, particularly looking at some of the competition. It's a bit like Today Tonight being nominated for a Logie against Foreign Correspondent...
I wouldn't mind Survivor winning the Emmy, though. Recognition of the idea's longevity and more impetus for CBS to make even more seasons! Now, how can more Survivor be a bad thing? |

I hope it wins. But that Idol thing will. Survivor needs a boost.
I hope Zoe accepts the award for Survivor. That show was NOTHING without her. Always remember: Penny SUCKS ![]() Quote of The Week: If Elvis was King that SH must be god.~T-Rextoon |
