I've seen:

Harry Potter: I agree that despite its length (over 2.5hrs) it seemed 'rushed'. I think they could actually have left some more bits out and rewritten the story a bit to make it a better film. I know that there are people who will be disappointed about their favorite parts being omitted but the reality is it's hard to be completely faithful to the book in a movie. They will have big trouble with the next one, which is a longer and more complex book, and I hear they've already admitted that Book 4 will need to be 2 films, not just 1.

The Two Towers: I didn't like this as much as the first film. I remember reading the books, having loved 'The Hobbit', and becoming disinterested about halfway through 'Two Towers' because there was less truly imaginative stuff and the book just degenerated into lots of battles, which I don't find particularly interesting. The film was well made, but I think it could have been shorter; and extended sequences of remarkable courage against incredible odds is a complete yawn for me. Gollum was good, I guess, but I formed a particular view of how Gollum should be after reading "The Hobbit" and the character in LotR was not close enough to my own image for my liking.

Die Another Day: Some of the special effects are a bit cheezy, and the invisible car was pretty silly, but all in all it was quite good fun. Not a great film but diverting. Loved the ice palace, even if it did look like a cross between the Opera House and McDonalds!

Bowling for Columbine: An interesting film, although it looks shocking as it was clearly not filmed on proper 35mm stock. Blown up to big screen size some scenes look awful. Maybe TV is a better place for this one. As for the content, Mike Moore has a definite agenda to push and he makes some quantum leaps of logic to get there. He has also been criticised for using inaccurate statistics, which undermines his argument somewhat. I think his attempts to tie together the US's love of weapons and misuse of them with racism and poor social welfare policy are a bit strained - after all, there are plenty of countries which are much worse than the US on both counts that don't have the gun problem. And the comparisons he makes to Canada are a bit banal. I think he comes closest with an animated sequence illustrating the general paranoia of Americans. He does also achieve a small but significant victory in the film in tandem with two of the victims of Columbine, which is worthwhile.

I'm going to see Adaptation some time soon.

I've also caught up on some videos:

Monsters Inc: Cute and diverting, although too much smartassed fast yapping from Billy Crystal's character.

Spiderman: Can't see what all the fuss was about. I often find comicbook adaptions to leave me cold; this was no exception. Just waaaaay too unbelievable for my liking. Pretty much the only film in this genre that I've liked was X-Men.

Gosford Park: Well made with a good cast.

I didn't like the sentimental bits but I thought it was a pretty good film. I thought it was clever that they never showed Sully (or anyone, for that matter) being REALLY scary until towards the end, when the kids in the audience would have got to know that he was harmless.

I thought the story was very clever, although I think younger kids may have had trouble understanding the plot, particularly with the characters speaking so fast. I thought Shrek was better overall, but MI was pretty good for a kids film.
