Updated? Why yes.

With the demise of several download sites it's now harder to find the latest episodes of TV programs. I've found the best sites to be private BitTorrent tracker sites. These sites usually have the episodes available very shortly after episodes have aired and because they are private sites download speeds are usually very high. The down side is that these sites are ratio based and expect that for every byte you download you should upload a byte. That is, after all, how peer to peer (p2p) file sharing works but it can be a problem for customers of ISPs like BigPond and Dodo where uploads are counted against your plan limits or Optus where uploading is frowned upon.
Of course there are ways around this problem. The one most commonly used is stealth downloading however even using stealth downloading (which really goes against the spirit of p2p) you'll still need to upload something to ensure your ratio is better than zero. If you don't keep your ratio at a minimum level you can be banned and lose all access to the tracker site. To avoid a long, boring post I won't go into more details here. Ask questions if you need. (Answers to questions charged at $4.95 per paragraph) The other drawback to private trackers is that you usually need an invite to join one. Two of the best are BitmeTV.org and TVTorrents.com. To download files you'll need a BitTorrent client. I don't recommend the original client by Bram Cohen as it's fairly basic. Unfortunately BitMeTV has banned several clients because they allow cheating. Of the remaining, allowable clients, the most popular are µTorrent and Azureus are the most popular. Azureus is a bit of a resource hog and can slow your PC down which is why I recommend µTorrent. Once you've downloaded and installed your BT client, I suggest you visit the following sites if you need more information on BitTorrent and how it works. Brian's BitTorrent FAQ and Guide Brian's BitTorrent FAQ and Guide (alternate) The BitTorrent Wiki FAQ More help can also be obtained by posting in the Torrent-Talk Yahoo Group. Just to add...
I've found a really good site that uses other torrent search sites together into one. It is torrents.to. I've found sandybaggers rip of episode one. (ended up taking me about 45 minutes to download on my cable modem) Link to the actual torrent if anyone wants it directly. Never been short of what im looking for there. Also if anyone is interested you can download previous series in whole. I've downloaded a few series already. The Amazon season episodes came bundled in one torrent that was 4.2 gig. If you want to wait a bit longer then go for it. I am posting in this High-Quality thread |

I have a question about downloading TAR8: Family edition.
I have so far downloaded the first 6 episodes, however the torrent I've found for episode 7 is double the length of any of the others. Was episode 7 a two hour episode or would this be episode 7 and 8 lumped together (so therefore I won't need to download episode Also, with the last episode, I've found one torrent called "episodes 11-12", and one "12-13". Were there 12 episodes or 13? |

Yep, eps 7 & 8 screened as a double ep. File size will be around 700mb.
Technically it was a 13 episode season, but some people consider the aforementioned double episode just episode 7, whereas it was actually 7 and 8 combined. Thus the confusion about the finale, which again was episodes 12 and 13 combined. I'd recommend the 12-13 torrent, though I do remember having some trouble for the same reasons when I tried downloading it. |

Hey eskimo, which site did you use to find torrents for other series? I'd love to download Outback and see that again, but the torrents I find of the whole series say that there are no seeders.

Another question re. The Amazing Race.
I downloaded the torrent for amazing race: family edition, episodes 7 and 8. I use Bitcomet to download ever since that was recommended on here at some point or other. Most files I've downloaded have been fine, but I noticed that this file was incredibly slow. It's supposed to be 697mb, and in bitcomet it says only 6.5% of it is downloaded (it's been going all day today and has been going on and off since I asked the question). However the weird thing is, when I went to the downloaded file directory this exact same uncompleted file says it's 663mb. What is the problem? How can I have downloaded 663mb of a file which is supposed to be 697mb, with it saying it's only 6.5% downloaded? ![]() |

Re: DOWNLOADING SURVIVOR EPS? READ HERE! *updated for 2006*
Quote:BitTorrent works by getting different pieces of a file from different pieces and the pieces that you get from different people may be non-sequential. Person A might give you pieces 1, 47, 256, 1055, 6122 and 6125 while Person B might give you 37, 2000, 2200 and 9999. Person B might only give you pice 111 and so on. When a torrent starts downloading BitComet preallocates file space and slots the received pieces into their appropriate spot in that file space whenever it receives a piece. The reason that the file is 663MB in windows and 697MB in BitComet is that Windows is reporting the size in binary megabytes (actually called mebibytes) while BitComet is reporting in actual megabytes, probably rounded to the nearest megabyte. 1 mebibyte (1 MiB) = 1,048,576 bytes 1 megabyte (1 MB) = 1,000,000 bytes. 663MiB = 663 x 1,048,576 = 695,205,888 = 695.2MB ![]() Check out the FAMOUS TMA FAQ "The Mole is brilliant" - JoelsBigOne |

Re: DOWNLOADING SURVIVOR EPS? READ HERE! *updated for 2006*
Quote: Thanks TMA...though the file hasn't actually finished downloading yet so I don't think it's just a number conversion thing. In fact, the file in Windows keeps getting bigger and bigger. Once it's finished it should be 697mb. However, in bitcomet it says it's only 6.5% done which is far smaller than it should be according to the size of the file. ![]() |

Re: DOWNLOADING SURVIVOR EPS? READ HERE! *updated for 2006*
Quote:As I said, the reason for this is that BitComet has preallocated the file space when the torrent download started. What you see is an empty file that is being filled with pieces as they arrive. ![]() Check out the FAMOUS TMA FAQ "The Mole is brilliant" - JoelsBigOne |

Re: how you all forget........
Quote: there may be a limited number of seeders but that i guess is just the luck of the draw for a series over 5 years old. Give it a go and see what speeds you get, it may start working (yet at a slower rate than expected). I downloaded Amazon at about an episode a day and it apparantly had no seeders. You just need to be a bit patient. The best seasons for speed and seeds were 3,5,7,8. 5 and 6 were a bit tricky, but they eventually finished. I am posting in this High-Quality thread |

I'm having trouble too, Dal. I'd say it'll be up at tvtorrents and other sites soon though. Frustrating though, coz I'm really looking forward to this episode. Why were you banned from that other site you mentioned?
