hahaha i totally would have reacted the way Mika did if I had been there..but I think I would have ended up doing it. Couldn't believe when Big easy got
stuck trying to work out the code to open the briefcase. They're funny. I was glad they stayed. Loved all their doing it for the hood comments. The gay
guys were lucky the girls team went to the same challenge as them..they'd never have gotten it otherwise and it would have put them behind.
Can see Meghan & Cheyne/Flight time and Big Easy going far.

I couldn't believe Mika, and that a waterslide was the difference between her and Canaan getting eliminated! Didn't particularly care whether it was
them or the basketballers.
I thought it was hilarious that the first people who got to the gold counting challenge tried to figure out the calculations by hand and then flight time and big easy walk in and ask for a calculator! There's no team this season that I really like...Marcy and Ron were my favourites but that didn't last long!  |

Kinda sad really and Canaan wasn't really as supportive as he should have been. It got dangerously close to physical violence at one point, and you really
shouldn't be screwing round like that on top of a slide. In one way it was a bit slack for the Globetrotters to start sledging, but it's a game after
all and I think they realised that it may well have been the deciding factor in who got bumped.
And WTF was with the floaties? I mean, seriously! I hope Mika went back the next day and did it. I do understand to a degree - sometimes there is something you feel really, really bad about doing and it seems so hard even when it isn't. But still, she should have realised that going on Race would make her confront that fear at some point. Yeah, I initially thought "How lucky are the boys to have a calculator, the challenge would be almost impossible without it" - then it turned out calculators were on tap! And my goodness, the boys couldn't work out how to use theirs? They must have told the teams to bring matching swimmers as most of them were co-ordinated. In fact the teams have been pretty colour co-ordinated throughout.

Wow, what an episode! Haven't any of them got hats? I want to do that waterslide.
The challenges weren't that brilliant but it was good that one that seemed easy wasn't (even if just for the heat) and the one that was probably harder wasn't - as long as you asked for a calculator. What a hoot! After stuffing around with the briefcase it was great to see the Globetrotters use their brains. The Poker Girls have gone up more in my estimation, as after what I thought was a shaky start they're playing a lot smarter now. As much as I love the Globetrotters because they're usually so funny, I agree that the sledging was a bit off even while understanding why they did it. Poor Mika, it's hard not to think she could've got down if Canaan had kept calmer. I think from the comments at the end he knows that too, and it would've been stressful after the heat, knowing you were close to elimination, and having just one waterslide between you and a potential $1 million. I was sure he'd blown it as soon as he grabbed and she stopped trusting having him nearby - at one point I thought we'd find out that team was eliminated because he got too rough and the waterslide attendant had to intervene.  I've been with people who've got into that sort of state when faced with a
challenge that includes something they're almost phobic about, and it does take work to calm and reassure them. Much better if you keep them from winding
themselves up in the first place. It'd be great if she had gone back and done the slide later on when the pressure was off, and I really hope she did. I
know that sort of thing's helped me get over some of my greatest fears.

I really enjoyed that ep! I would love to go to Dubai. It looks amazing.
That was hilarious how Mika was wearing the floaties.  Too bad she couldn't just have gone for it. Damn that looked like a brillaint ride!
I doubt she went back and did it later, her fear was overwhelming. I was happy Flight Time and Big Easy made it in the end.. Canaan should have played it cooler and there may have been a different ending!   |

Philip Island, and it took me a few times before I could actually let go of the bar and 'drop'. Friends were trying to be encouraging, but all I heard
was white noise, and needed them all to go away, so I could still my mind, and tell myself how strong I was, and talk myself into being brave. Then I did it.
If she'd been allowed to just sit, and her confidence boosted with empowering words of 'look how far you've come, look at the challenges we've
got through, look at all the barriers you've knocked down.....etc etc' she might well have let go and dropped.
The gold challenge was very fast, a minute wasn't very long to try and calculate and load the gold, and the Poker Girls were extremely sporting to keep shouting out the calculations, and as Em said, I don't think the boys would have got thru that challenge on their own. The pipes challenged looked very draining, heat wise, sitting in my hot room last night, and the heat of this week, I couldn't even imagine how extreme it would have been out there.....and their brains would have been really zapped. I love the Globetrotters, yes they were pretty mean to Mika at the top of the slide, but they were in last position, and had lost so much time with the briefcase, that I guess their competitive edge took over, like it probably does on the Court, when the pressure is on. I think the Beauty Queen did well going down the slide so fast, she didn't think about it, just went....well done her! |

have to confront her worst fears while on the show? Why did she go on if she had such a fear of heights? Having said that, I thought they were a great team up
to that point and I wish they hadn't been eliminated.

When I was in a similar situation I remember everyone shouting out supposed "encouragement" was not helping and was in fact just distracting me from trying to psych myself into it. Not too sure about the Globetrotters, I didn't like the way they were calling out that stuff to Mika. All they had to do was wait 2 minutes and they could have done that quietly.I think they were concerned that Mika looked like she was on the verge of going down. If she had gone, they might well have been out of the competition. So they wanted to reduce the risk that she would get up the courage within those two minutes. Overall, I don't think it made much of a difference. If she and Canaan had gone down just before the Globetrotters, I bet the Globetrotters would have outrun them to the mat so M&C would still have been eliminated. What really lost it for them was Mika dithering around and letting the Globetrotters catch up.

I guess sometimes those challenges with 'heights' involved, eg bungy jumping, parachute jumping, etc are usually tasks only one team member has to
undertake, not always both......so signing up for TAR doesn't always mean you both have to do it.

I am sorry, but I took a little too much pleasure in Mika's pain this week. Seeing her there screaming with her little girl floaties on, then having Mr.
"Virgins-Are-Great-Guys" nearly shoving her down headfirst... It just showd that these two were not who they were pretending to be most of the time.
Yeah the Trotters were annoying and a bit mean; but it WAS a race and many would have used that as little nudge to just buck up and get over it. Can you
imagine if it had been something even SCARIER, like rapelling down some huge cliff or summat?

I'm not sure I'd like to go to Dubai. A cousin of mine was thrown in gaol there for a day a while ago. He was there working on a three month contract, the job finished a bit early and he went to the airport to come home - and they wouldn't let him leave because he didn't have a release from his employer. Pretty scary. You really have to watch what you say and to whom, he was telling us about some royal person he met and you just had to go along with everything. Then there's the australian guy who's facing up to 3 years in gaol for swearing at an official. possum |

Unfortunately there is a lot of hypocrisy and crap in the Arabic world. Maybe this is an unfair generalisation but a lot of people who have been there say
there's a lot of uneven treatment. My father went there for work a while back for a short time - everyone is supposed to follow a moral code but he got
taken off to some tent in the desert full of alcohol and girls. Very sensibly he behaved himself (or so he says!) - I have heard of some people who didn't
and got away with it, but others get photographed and blackmailed/thrown in jail and asked for a big bribe to be released. It is very easy for us to
unknowingly break some sort of taboo, and that can be taken advantage of.

MORE annoying; but these two are so typical. They pretend to be more righteous than others, when really they should just let their humanness and foibles show,

I jsut think when you are going on a race around the world, you have got to expect when going you will face things like that. To think you will get far without being able to go in water or do something involving heights is absolute ignorance as something involve one or the other is bound to pop up. You have to push yourselves at times. To go there and back out of something like that is quite pathetic, especially when it would directly result in an elimination and she knew it. She could have done it for him (it was a waterslide for fucks sake and at one point he was willing to slide down with her), but she just wasn't willing to push herself. Canaan deserved to be annoyed as she pretty much decided before going there that she wasn't going to do it. |
