Yay! No more Dickhead!
Mind you I know what you mean Dal - at least he could laugh at himself a bit in this ep. In other news, apparently nothing says "Dubai" like... snowmen? Thanks for yet another Moment Of Cultural Irrelevance, show. No, actually I think that was highly relevant. In some parts of the world, the culture is to demonstrate your superiority and mastery of the elements by creating an environment that is the complete opposite of that which naturally prevails. So in Phoenix, AZ when you drive past houses, many of them have elaborate water features. The shopping malls have massive fountains. It's people's way of saying "I may live in the desert but I am such a big shot that I can command water to do my bidding and treat it as my plaything." Dubai is a place of massive extravagance and Ski Dubai is but one manifestation of that. It's highly relevant to the culture. Well, the contemporary culture driven by oil dollars, anyway. I quite liked the episode - although going up the tallest building was a bit of an anticlimax. |

Wow I could 'sense' the heat the minute they arrive in Dubai, the way all the cameras were steaming up in the cars.....and I thought Asia was hot!
I liked including the tallest building, the anticipation of what would happen in the World's tallest building made it a brilliant ruse to include it, if only to see Mika breaking down at the mere thought of what might happen. I was laughing at her wearing the floaties in next week's episode, as she was avoiding being 'thrown' down that massive chute. I was REALLY impressed with Lance this episode, he kept his cool and sense of humour, in the least likely place to remain cool, the searing heat of the desert. He knew they were trailing badly, but instead of raging he just became dignified in defeat. I'm afraid I am a little confused on the use of taxi as help on TAR. Sometimes they get penalised for getting a taxi to show them the way, and other times it seems to be acceptable? |

I'm afraid I am a little confused on the use of taxi as help on TAR. Sometimes they get penalised for getting a taxi to show them the way, and other times it seems to be acceptable?Yes, that puzzled me too. I thought Phil was about to hit Mika and Canaan with a time penalty or something. In the last series it seemed to be a rule that you could not pay someone to guide you. And yes, what's with the floaties? Surely even if someone was a weak swimmer, floaties would be pretty useless on a grown adult? You'd put her in a proper life jacket. It must just be a joke or something. I was surprised by how many people picked the needle-in-a-haystack challenge rather than building a snowman (to start off with, anyway). |

Yes, Gage & I were watching last night, and waiting for Phil to say their position and follow it with a 'however......' and it didn't happen.
Doesn't seem entirely clear/fair.

I really liked this episode. Fantastic location, Dubai is absolutly spectacular and out of this world!! I really want to go there, and glad it looks like they
spend another episode there next week.
My two favourite teams are the girls and the gay guys. Surprise surprise. I'm afraid I am a little confused on the use of taxi as help on TAR. Sometimes they get penalised for getting a taxi to show them the way, and other times it seems to be acceptable? It depends on what the clue states in each circumstance. |

I don't know about that. Remember that the stunt guys (I think?) got penalised for "receiving guidance from someone for reward". That seemed to
be some general rule they were quoting.
In most series people have been able to pay taxi drivers and follow them, but there was just that one occasion where it seemed to be disallowed. |

I think the with stunt guys it was because they were giving away their personal possessions that they'd brought with them as a form of payment which is a
Race no-no. Since people have given guidance to people on the show in the past for free, I don't think there's a problem with that, or they pay the
taxi drivers to show them where to go, but if someone has an expensive watch and they use that once they've run out of race provided money then it gives
them an unfair advantage.

No, that was the second time they were busted - when they were using personal possessions to pay the taxi bill rather than the money they were given. I thought
the first time they got busted (or someone got busted) it was because they paid a taxi driver to show them where to go. I was surprised at this because, as you
say, people have previously paid taxi drivers to drive somewhere and followed them. So it looked like a new rule. Now it looks like the rule is gone, which I
would hope happens as it seems a silly rule.
I wish they would post all the rules for Survivor, Race etc on some website somewhere so that we could understand. ETA: Yes, it was the stunt boys and it was Series 14 Ep 7, the ep in Thailand where they had to find the gorilla statue. I said at the time: As for the stunt midgets - that must be some newish rule they have introduced to stop Romber types paying taxis to lead them everywhere. I am sure it has been legit in previous series to pay taxis and follow them. However Victor clearly knew that it was against the rules this season. The time they got penalised for using personal possessions was the following episode, Series 14 Ep 8.
