Survivor: Gabon - Episode 9 |
Lead | |
|
Coming out of the woodwork here because I have to chat about the latest episode with someone, ANYONE! Been watching on youtube and was thinking this was
turning out to be one of the most boring seasons ever, with a predictable ending. The last 3 episodes have been the best episodes of Survivor I have seen.
Marcus, now Charlie. I am loving susie's surprise immunity win, loving Sugar, loving hating Randy. Ken is one of the most brilliant players to play this
game, Matty is hot stuff and Corrine will be gone next week. Crystal, OMG! Although she sucks at challenges she is the best casting in a long time and deserves
to win at this stage. Loved the surprise merge as well - this season has really put my faith back in Survivor

This is turning into a superb season, with a very interesting end-game and great cast. I'm glad everyone snuck around.
Tonight's was another great eppie -- Crystal vs Randy!!!! =D Can't wait to see the drama unfold there, as the two target each other. Isn't looking good for Randy next week though, with Sugar gunning for him. Nice to see some consistently unique and fresh challenges mixed in there, as well as some classics resurrected for good measure. A pity the fire starting challenge was such a miserable failure; they should have made it a bit easier or physical, akin to the fire starting challenge in Borneo (where they had to run back and forth from the beach to get kinder). Can't wait for next week, this is a great season! ![]() |

BLINDSIDE!!
How amazing was that editing? Charlie did not see that coming. I am worried however that Kenny has possibly made a critical blunder in his reason for going after Charlie - taking the clue from him at the immunity feast - playing from that emotional level can be dangerous and the fact that they showed it may be a factor in somehow things not going too well for Kenny later in the game. We'll see. Because Charlie really is not that much of a threat (he even said himself that Marc-Ace told him and Corrine what to do), and Randy is a massive threat, he should have seen beyond his own emotions and targeted Randy. I hope Randy is next, he is just the rudest dickhead they've had on the show - and he has no clue that that's how others see him either. And I hope Corrine goes right after him - calling Sugar a moron. Who's the moron now? I am thinking that Kenny, Crystal and Sugar are going far in this game, my prediction is Final 3, with them cutting Susie loose at Final 4 - total speculation on my part, no spoilers. I think it will be Kenny and Sugar as F2, but then again, what do I know? I was predicting Marc-Ace for the win, heh. Agreeance that the last couple of eps have been awesome! Very much enjoying it. I thought it was nice how they dedicated the ep to Rudy's wife, who died last week.

Ok this season is sort of turning out like Micronesia, in the sense that it started off really well, then died down and just before the merge we got some
killer episodes till the end, so I hope thats how Gabon pans out.... Cause if it does ill be 'this' happy
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH Loved Bob's little comment at the start, i honestly feel that we dont see enough of him. 'If we lose the I.C ill be History.... kinda funny considering i teach Science.......... oh btw that was a joke' HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH The R.C was really cool. Randy is fucken psycho, but I am happy that he is around to bring some d.r.a.m.a. Totally didnt see that merge happening then, I thought it was going to be in the next episode, which if it was the case would have sucked some major ass, cause it would have been really late in the game to do it. I think they need to do merges sooner than later. Its more fun then. Oh and I loved the momment before R.C when they didnt see Marcus, and Corrine was all like ' However Corrine did have some funny comments tonight in regards to Suger... 'Ive been mean to her for 20 days and 1 nice day and she swings over..... what a moron' HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHA. I guess she aint the moron after all. Happy about the boot as long as it wasnt Crystal, was it just me or did Randy come off a little racist with the comments in regards to C.G and Crystal - 'your people' 'your gang' 'your possey'? I really hope she crushes him next week. Plus I dont think Charlie is that sad to be voted off after all he does get to spend time with Marcus ![]()

Jeff Probst blogs 'Survivor: Gabon' (episode 9)Nov 14, 2008, 06:32 AM | by Jeff Probst Categories: 'Survivor', Reality TV, Television, Things That Are Awesome!
First the Macaulay Culkin "hands to the face" reaction made famous in Home Alone and then the verbal response that revealed the rest of her truth: "I'm pissed. He didn't deserve to leave the game." Which prompted Kenny's very fair question, "Who does?" This is why we are still on the air and why I still love hosting Survivor after 17 seasons. Human nature. It is nearly impossible to hide our true selves, especially in times of conflict. "He didn't deserve to leave the game." Only seven words. But judging from Kenny's clenched jaw reaction, those seven words might have just sealed Corrine's fate. Charlie was less upset and less vocal, and you saw what happened to him. Gone. I fully admit that it is sooooo easy for me to backseat drive. I'm not playing this game, living in the middle of Africa on nothing, my mind overloaded with strategy, wondering who I can trust, dealing with those annoying bug bites and having an obnoxious host up in my face all the time. And hey, I'd be "pissed" too if they took out my ally. Marcus was good. Too good to let stay in the game. Corrine, Charlie, and Marcus had a real shot at going to the end and if so, Marcus wins hands down. He was that good. So I fully lay down and concede that I don't think I could hack this game, and as I have said hundreds of time, I have the utmost respect for anybody who raises their hand to endure this thing called Survivor. Now that I've cleared my conscience...it's time to get back to lipping off. Corrine, it's just a thought, but when you sense the horse is going in a different direction, it might be wise to lessen your hold on the reins and let the horse guide the way. This horse is definitely going in a different direction and the person sitting in the saddle is Kenny. Kenny is...the new kid in town. Watching Kenny come of age is reality's version of watching great Shakespeare. He's maturing from a young man into a leader...and in this game that means he may soon gain the throne. Ah, but if he gets too cocky, the gods will descend and a beheading is soon to follow. Watch yourself Kenny. A healthy dose of humility could help win you a million dollars. I have to share a story about the golf challenge. There was much debate between the creative team about whether this challenge was going to provide enough drama. We just weren't sure, so we were hoping we might catch a break and get some really great reality during the challenge and as Survivor luck would have it, we did. Thank you, Randy, for being so pushy, and thank you, Matty, for pushing back. "No, you can't do it, Randy." Love that moment. If you were paying close attention, Randy was absolutely right in what he was saying. "Just hold it over the hole and drop it." Ah, but once again human nature takes over, and Matty couldn't see straight to save his life. Personally, I'm just so glad I'm perfect and have no issues whatsoever to deal with. I'm kidding. And while I'm at it, yes I read the comments you leave at EW.com, and yes, I know many of you think "Probst sucks." Whatever. Man I love this blogging. Cheapest therapy yet. Then there is the reward where once again, more human nature revealed itself. Corrine smiled! Corrine took the hand of a small child! Dare I say, Corrine loved!! Let them eat cake!! She has a heart! She is human! Yeah! And when Corrine smiles, I am reminded, Corrine is pretty damn attractive. The merge - finally. Nuff said. Question: How often has being eliminated in a challenge or at tribal council come down to making fire? Well, I don't know the exact number, but...it's a lot! I promise you if I was going to be on this show I would make certain I could make fire while blindfolded, untying knots, and solving a puzzle, 'cause that's what we do on Survivor! REI sells flint for five bucks! Order online and you don't even have to leave your house! My final observation: Bob should work in the Survivor art department because the fake immunity idol he made is incredible. Truly beautiful. Still not exactly sure how he pulled it off but there had to be a bit of smelting going on and I don't even know what smelting means! His students back home in Maine should be proud! "Ole teach" is working it and the merge has given Bob new life! Next time on...Survivor. One of the best episodes of the season. No hype. Pure truth. |

I saw either a Corrine or Charlie boot coming from the beginning of the ep...the saturation of confessionals gave that one away. Pretty decent ep though.
While I can't stand Randy, I'm finding myself more and more aligned to his perspectives. Firstly, what the fuck was Matt thinking with that final ball at the RC?! He just had to drop it in. Why even consider risking it? Idiot. And secondly, yes, Crystal is a Sasquatch. Kenny's playing a dangerous game - right now, while he has a lot of power, he's also a huge target. Too much, too soon I say. Hasn't the kid ever heard of moderation? Although I can't blame him, Crystal is too munted to even bother allowing to strategize and the little troll with Immunity has no social game, nor reputation left, whatsoever. Take Kenny away and the pair of them are vagrants. Matty and Sugar had better reassess his situation, quick smart. Bob's HII was brilliant! That they showed that footage raises some suspicions whether someone will attempt to play it (within the game, not at TC). Next week looks explosive. Yay! It's not looking good in the least, but I'm still barracking for Corrine.

Dal, thanks for posting the Ponderosa videos and Jeff's Blog - I looked for them but couldn't find them. Awesome stuff - I'm also doing the Happy
Dance! I love Jeff's blog, it's always a good read.
And OMG, from what we saw not only in the game, but in the Ponderosa videos there, Marcus has been denying he's gay for so long, but hey, it's soooooo time to come out. They look good together. Although I can't blame him, Crystal is too munted to even bother allowing to strategize and the little troll with Immunity has no social game, nor reputation left, whatsoever.Moo, could you explain that please? It's not a clear statement, and I don't even know what "munted" means, but I think by troll you are referring to Sugar? No social game, no reputation? Come on! She's playing a fantastic game! Most people like her, except for Corrine, who doesn't matter anymore anyway. So there's the social game. She's aligned with the power players in the game and indeed, helped them get there. There's the strategy. And thus her reputation is solid. If Kenny or Sugar get to the end, based on what we've seen it would be very hard to pick who wins it and I think it would be very close. With Crystal however, I think she would lose. I'm still not convinced that she has done much at all to get her where she is, except align with the right people, but then again, that's a valid strategy too. She has ridden "tailcoats", as someone put it last week Probst says: Next time on...Survivor. One of the best episodes of the season. No hype. Pure truth. Can't fucking WAIT for next week!

AussieOriginal wrote:The troll is Susie, not Sugar! Hahaha. Sugar's been fine and although she's been instrumental in key elements of the game so far, she's not played a bad social game just yet. Probably the least offensive of them all (besides Bob). Troll has no reputation because she so blatantly abandoned her loyalties to forward herself in the game. She's a threat, even to Kenny and Sasquatch. She's been so outspoken about stopping at nothing to get to the F3, too. As for munted, it's basically equates to a polite translation of massively retarded. Crystal just runs her mouth off - there's no thought process, she just burns bridges and keeps on moving, and I think if she approached anyone with a serious attempt to strategize they would just laugh their asses off at her. It's not neccesarily a bad thing entertainment wise, but as far as game play goes she's got no where to turn to except for Kenny and the troll. Most importantly though, she's not neccesarily been proactive about making decisions - she's let other people do it - not as strategy, because because I think she's lazy. I think people are underestimating the serious flaws in their game play...it's not omnipresent because the "awe" is overshadowing it, but the rug is inching out from under them. Bottom line - they both lack foresight, and that's instrumental, especially at this point of the game. I seeeeriously wouldn't give up Corrine so fast, either.

I wrote a big long reply earlier this week but then feckin' yuku deleted it when I tried to submit it. Argh. Here's trying again....
Another excellent episode, but I'm in two minds about the final result. On one hand, it's great that Charlie is gone because I love being shocked when I'm convinced someone is going to make it to the end. On the other hand, I thought Charlie was nice and overall a good player, and it now means Kenny and Crytal are in the majority. I might be in the minority here, but I don't see Kenny as this huge time strategist that so many people are making him out to be. In fact, I really want him to get voted out as soon as possible because I find him incredibly annoying. In the past when people have made big moves, it has been by convincing people to swap. Kenny's moves have been flat out lies - eg, telling Sugar that Ace was gunning for her - However the fatal flaw in his game is that people are beginning to realise that he's untrustworthy and willing to look people in the eye and lie, and I think that may come back to bite him. I hope so. Also, I am glad Crystal has lasted this far as she's provided some good entertainment, but I class her as a villain at this point....she just seems evil! The good thing about this group is that there are quite a few players who are very influenced by their emotions - for example Crystal, Sugar and Susie - which means that the game down the track will be unpredictable and I don't think it will be as simple as picking off the ex-Kota members. After all, Sugar does not trust Kenny & Crytal, and Matty in the past has tried to vote out Crystal. It seems like there are 3 groups: Sugar & Matty; Randy, Corinne & Bob; and Kenny, Crystal & Susie. I would hate to see great characters like Corinne & Randy just get picked off, but that's what it's looking like at this point, unless something changes this week. I would love to see the Idol come into play and take out one of the new majority but I can't see Sugar joining with either Corinne or Randy, so it seems quite unlikely. Fingers crossed Bob can utilise his own fake idol to save himself as he seems like such a lovely guy - I pissed myself at his history joke. I'm predicting Randy to get picked off next, as he seems to be highest on the majority's hitlist, but we'll see. I think Corinne is pretty cluey so I wouldn't be surprised to see her last at least a couple more weeks. In my little ideal world, I would like to see Randy get picked off next, going down in a blaze of fire, but then seeing Matty & Sugar join up with Corinne and Bob to vote out Kenny, then Susie, then Crystal. After all, if Matty and Sugar stick with Susie, Crystal and Kenny, they're likely to get 4th and 5th place. If Kenny, Crystal & Susie make it to be the final 3 standing, I'll puke! Fingers crossed this next episode is as good is Probst is building it up to be! ![]() |

I'd be happy with a Matty, Sugar, Corrine and Bob F4.
When talking about Kenny being a big time strategist, you have to look at it from an inside-the-game perspective. Not has he been responsible for the last two blindsides, but his ego is clearly catching up with him. Sure, in Survivor history there has been far more game play - in a single ep even, but within this season, in this game, with these people - well he's making statements while everyone else is trying to play stealth. The good thing is that they all know now. It's only a matter of time...
