40 Year Old Virgin was awesome as always. It's got many lolworthy moments. Only problem is that it's a tad too long. It goes for over 2 hours which
isn't really necessary but whatever.

If you are anything like Anwar from Skins, you will never quite get to About a Boy.

28 Days Later does have a terrific soundtrack and is responsible for introducing me to Godspeed! You Black Emperor (or whatever variation they're calling
themselves this week).
I just love the wonderfully random juxtaposition of working through the films alphabetically rather than grouping by themes, genre, director or even actors. |

That's the way I roll! I probably could've done it another way but ehhh, that would mean I have to think. It does make for a few jarring transitions
though, like 28 Days Later to 40 Year Old Virgin. Ah well, it's fun.
Just watched About A Boy and loved it as usual. It is a tad heavy handed and overly sentimental but it works. I find it hard to believe that this film was written and directed by the same guys that wrote American Pie. I think one of them also wrote and directed The Golden Compass. Strange times. Kolos, the difference is that American Pie was an original screenplay (and by Adam Herz, not the Weiszes), whereas About a Boy and Golden Compass were both
adapted from novels, by Nick Hornby and Phillip Pullman respectively.

And also explains some of the key problems with The Golden Compass.

On the bright side, it wasn't about the polar bear, the ferret and the little girl seeing who could lose their V-plates first, whilst Daniel Craig put the
moves on Stifler's Mom.

Pantalaimon isn't a ferret!
But yes, it could've been much, much worse. |

Survivoreviver wrote: Apparently they helped write the American Pie screenplay but were uncredited. Or so I read. And yes, I realise that both films were adapted. I haven't seen The Golden Compass but they did an excellent job with the About A Boy adaptation. I just found it strange that they went from American Pie to About A Boy, which is a predominantly British film and rather different to the juvenile humour of Pie. Your Signature ...

Mamma Mia!
Well, I actually only watched 30 minutes of it. That was all I could stomach. Absolutely terrible. Why must they rape great ABBA songs like that? Your Signature ...

I'm not really a musical person and I find Meryl Streep highly irritating, so I'm not quite sure why I attempted to watch it in the first place! I do
love ABBA though.

Well I love musicals, quite like Meryl Streep, and am so-so on Abba, lol (hated Abba in the 70's when they were all over the charts)

I think the critical question here is missing: if you hate it so much, why do you have it on DVD Kolos?
My sister was the ABBA fan, I couldn't stand them back in the 1970s either. Now there's a lot of their stuff I don't mind at all. |

Oh, I don't have it on DVD. It was on TV and I've been wanting to see it for a while so I watched it.

Ta, Kolos. That makes a lot more sense.
I watched most of Ice Age on the telly tonight - or rather, that was what was on the telly while I was doing other stuff. Cute, but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it again. I turned off when that Eddie Murphy movie started. It was dire within the first few minutes. |

I haven't seen Ice Age since it came out, but I remember enjoying it.
Oh, also last night I watched The Shining. Such a brilliant film. It kind of reminds me of Psycho.. except on acid. The hedge maze sequence at the end blows me away, it's so well shot and the music makes it all the more suspenseful. Jack Nicholson was amazing too, and rather scary. Love it. Your Signature ...

I Am Legend
It was pretty good. It sort of reminded me of 28 Days Later for obvious reasons. I thought the shots of post-apocalyptic New York were very cool. However, I do have a few problems with this movie. The plot also suffered from some typical American film conventions but I don't take issue with that too much. Also, the CGI was not great. The zombies/monsters/whatevers looked too fake and took away some of the believability. All in all it's a good film but could have been better. Your Signature ...

The only bits of Ice Age I like are the bits with Scrat the Prehistoric Squirrel. Otherwise it's a reworking of 3 Men and a Baby.

I'd never thought of it that way.
Ice Age was the movie I took Rochelle and a friend to see during the school holidays when it came out. It was funny and had a lot of jokes that went right over the kids heads, so I was the only one in the cinema laughing a lot of the time. The next week I was at the shopping centre and ran into a friend with her kids, and she said "Oh, the kids saw you at the movies last week, their grandmother took them. Well.... they didnt' see you, but they heard you laughing and knew you were there!" possum |
