That's a good question Twig. I think it's double-edged. First, the networks want to establish viewing patterns, and if you get a regular weeknight pattern happening then you establish a good deal of loyalty for the station amongst a particular demographic. Ten has done that at 7pm with shows like Biggest Loser, Big Brother and now Masterchef. The hope is that if you regularly tune in at 7pm you are more likely to stick around for the weekly programming that follows.

But I think the other side of it is lack of a diversity of original ideas and content. This is why the programs that are "stripped" like this are soapies (very cheap drama), or gameshow/reality show type stuff that doesn't require much in the way of scripting, multiple sets, difficult camerawork and editing etc. This way you can churn out large quantities of stuff relatively cheaply.

I said the ads were annoying, not the show. They are particularly annoying because they use a very annoying song which I think is the Cat Empire's 'Allo 'Allo (or something similar). I thought it had finally vanished from our airwaves, but hearing it several times a night is a pain.
