Hey, there's a use for this section again!

The new Big Brother in the UK started and it's a very diverse cast this year (as basically every other year but this year moreso). There's housemates from: Brazil, Iran, Pakistan, India, Russia, ...Scotland. I'm not sure what the point is exactly, but diversity is cool I guess. There's an interview with her in this week's Woman's Day. She's 34 and her eyesight has been deteriorating for the last six months - 3 weeks ago she went to have her eyes checked and they told her she has some genetic disease (forget the name) and she is rapidly going blind. She's 34, been married for 9 months, has a little baby girl and is devastated. How horrible. She is legally blind now, has no peripheral vision at all and has had to hand her driver's licence...

I'm so sad to see this show end. It was good they got the past winners on the show tonight, and the highlight package of all the seasons at the end was really good. Only wish Gretal could have actually been in studio for the finale. I'm going to miss this show, it's definitely the end of an era.

Alice has left the others.

Big Brother Australia Axed

Channel 10 won't bring the show back in 2009

Big Brother Australia has been officially axed, with Channel 10 holding a media embargo on the announcement until midnight tonight.

The tragic news comes despite the best efforts of this year's production staff who took risks to revive the BB format. It is also a huge shock for Big Brother Australia fans and the hundreds of employees involved with in show's creation.

It's not over yet but it's far enough that we can start to identify the good and bad points of the "new look" BB, in terms of production decisions.

Good

* No negative voting - while it lasted anyway. The best way to get rid of the duller contestants. Even when they changed to HMs nominate they could have had a "save" voting system rather than an "evict" one.

* No fines. Arbitrary variation of the prize at...

I'm in two minds about this task.

It has provided a distraction and got people talking. That's a good thing. It remains to be seen if it really starts driving wedges between people and creating serious rifts that won't heal when the con is revealed. If it does that, it will have been worthwhile.

However, I'm surprised that (at least as far as we have seen) no-one has taken a more objective look at this thing.
